This was Patricia Rozema's controversial version of Jane
Austen's original work, filmed in Northamptonshire and Cornwall. What we
had to do was to find a period accent which would suit the period and
which the actors could accomplish. The actors came from Australia (Frances
O'Connor as Fanny Price); South Africa (Embeth Davidtz as Mary Crawford);
and U.S.A. (Alessandro Nivola as Henry Crawford) as well as from Britain.

| Lindsay Duncan had two different accents since she played
two characters, the sisters Mrs Price and Lady Bertram; for Mrs Price,
Lindsay had to adopt a West Country accent. Each of these actors did
outstanding work and successfully managed to create the period accent we
needed to achieve. Hannah Taylor Gordon (young Fanny) is astonishingly
dedicated and professional in her approach and the results she achieves
reflect her application: working with her was exactly like working with an
adult actor. |
